Why meditate

How to meditate

Here is a simple guide to meditation:

bulletSit in a relaxed posture in a quiet place.
bulletKeep your back straight.
bulletClose your eyes.
bulletStart to watch the blue-black space that appears in front of your eyes.
bulletWhat power is it that is watching this black space? How is it that you are aware?
bulletKeep sitting in silence letting your attention flow on the background space of consciousness.
bulletBe alert to any happenings that occur while you are sitting - sounds, feelings in the body, emotions or thoughts. Keep watching these happenings, but don't put energy into trying to follow them. If thoughts get you involved and want to distract you from the background space, recognize that these are thoughts coming and going. Don’t give them any more energy by trying to get rid of them. These thoughts will naturally dissipate on their own by patiently watching the background space and staying alert.
bulletAnother simple technique in staying focused: Repeat "I am pure being" ... "I am pure being" ... "I am pure being" ... silently inside and watch the space in-between the thoughts "I am pure being" ... "I am pure being" ...  The energy of thought will collect into a pure, relaxed, focused and healing stream.  As you become more and more absorbed into a state of tranquility, gradually increase the gaps in-between thoughts.  After repeating "I am pure being" for some time you can let go completely of the thought.  Then just watch your inner space in peace and alertness.
bulletSit for as long as comfortably possible. When you feel the need to get up, don’t hesitate. The important thing is not to force anything in meditation. Don’t feel that you have to meditate overlong. And while meditating, feel easy to shift your position, take a lungful of air, roll your neck, etc.
